It’s that time of year again in New Eden when all interested pilots in New Eden submit their applications to run for the Council of Steller Management or CSM. However, if you’re here chances are you’re new to Eve Online and don’t know what the CSM is. Lets look a little of what the CSM and how it came to be!
What is the Council of Steller Management?
Lets start this conversation by first talking about what the CSM is. It’s a council of 10 players elected by their fellow pilots to advise and assist CCP in the development of Eve Online.
Through the year term, the CSM have regular meetings with the Community and Team members at CCP, get access to certain internal sites and have a direct connection to teams across the organization. Additionally the CSM will be asked to attend a 5 day summit (traditionally in Iceland but for 2021 it was virtual and I believe 2022 it will be a hybrid).
What Do the CSM Do?
The role of a CSM member is to represent the players in the ongoing development of EVE Online by providing analysis, sharing suggestions, and giving feedback based on the ongoing community discussions and concerns to CCP. As an elected representative, a CSM member will have clear communication paths with CCP and a chance to influence the development of EVE Online many times during their term.CSM Section of the Eve Online Website
In short, the CSM are supposed to be able to bring player concerns to CCP. They’re supposed to give feedback about Eve development, discuss ideas and in general give their expertise on the subject. However, the past year has been rather turbulent for the CSM due to several things that CCP has rolled out despite (allegedly) the CSM saying they should do otherwise.
So can the CSM really change anything? Honestly, I don’t know. That’s why I decided to run, to see for myself how much impact the CSM really have on Eve. Lets see what happens for CSM 17!
How Do You Join the CSM?
Joining the Council of Steller Management requires a person to:
- Apply as a candidate
- Get elected by your peers onto the CSM
What are the Requirements to Run for CSM?
The following is the requirements to run as CSM:
- alpha or omega account that is at least 2 months old
- can’t be employed or volunteer with CCP
- account must be in good standing
- be over the age of 18
- be willing to submit a passport or national ID

How Does the Election Process Work?
How it worked last year is everyone who had an omega account got a certain amount of votes. The 1st vote held more weight than the second and so on. The voting period for 2022 will be from June 7th until 14th.
The CSMs were announced on CCP’s Twitch channel.
Note: this section will be updated when the election process for 2022 is revealed.
Who is Running for CSM in 2022?
Besides me? You can check out the CSM section in the forum. Everyone who has been approved to run is posting a thread. On May 25th the live candidate announcement will be held! This will herald the start of the official campaign period that runs until June 5th!
Why is Kshal Running?
Why not? I may only be 2 years into the game but I’ve made it my business to know everything there is to know about new players. Who’s better to represent newbros than a newbro? I have a perspective someone who has spent 10 years in null space doesn’t and I firmly believe this is worth something.
Will I win? Probably not. That’s OK! Think of how many eyeballs will land on Eve Rookies and everything we do! That in itself is worth it and then there’s always next year!
Oh, and I plan on trying to stay as transparent about my involvement in this process as I’m legally allowed. So hopefully I can provide insight in the entire process!
